Adopt-a-Grave

The Wainuiomata Pioneer Church Preservation Society has taken on the task  of restoring the old Coast Road Church and Churchyard and would like to offer you the chance to ‘Adopt a Grave’. This would help us in our endeavours to bring the Churchyard back to the neat, tidy and tranquil place it once was, so that visitors can enjoy the experience of wandering through.

There are 69 known gravesites in the old Coast Road Church Churchyard, but not all have headstones. Of those which do, many are not only in varying states of disrepair, but also need lots of tender loving care to slow  further deterioration and to keep the grave and its surrounds in a neat and tidy order.

All we ask of you is to visit your adopted grave on a regular basis (some graves are in need of more attention than others),  weed and  keep the grass edges around the grave trimmed, remove any old flowers left on the grave, and you can even leave fresh flowers yourself.  Some graves have broken concrete coverings and   these pose a danger if walked on. Please remember to take care around your adopted grave. If your grave has weeds growing through the broken concrete topping, take extreme care when weeding.

The Society will be spraying weeds in and around graves on a regular basis to assist you in this.

We invite you to join our cause to help preserve and maintain the Churchyard, along with the Church building.

If you are interested in adopting one of the graves, please email us through our Contact Us page.

 Update 30/04/2012
